For One: Chocolate Mug Cake

Hello critters! Today I'm gonna give you my awesome and super simple recipe for a good chocolate mug cake.

Here's what I use

  • 3 tbsp of flour

  • 2 tbsp of brown sugar

  • 1/4 tsp of baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • 3 tbsp of chocolate powder

  • 1 egg

    • 1 tbsp of vegetable oil

    • 2 tsp of milk

Here's what I do

  • I put all the dry ingredients in a big mug together, on top of one another. Then I mix it all up with a fork, gently.

  • I add the egg and fork it up with the dry mix. There shouldn't be a dry eye in the room, the whole mixture should be wet.

  • I pour the oil in and keep mixing. By now it should look more like a dark cake batter.

  • Finally, I add the milk, just enough to cover the top. I incorporate it nicely with the fork until the batter looks smooth.

  • I pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes at high temperature, et voilà !

Now for the backstory.

I'm a big fan of mug cakes. I think they're an easy and delicious way to start the day. These past few months especially, I've been trying to find the best combination of ingredients for a foolproof recipe. I've used the trial and error method instead of, you know, looking up actual recipes. Some were hits, some were misses, but I think with this one, I really have a winner. It's fluffy yet moist, it's not dry or dense, it simply melts in your mouth for a well-deserved dose of chocolate goodness.

Since the basis is good on its own, one could even add a few extra companions. I'm thinking chocolate chips, crushed nuts, peanut butter swirls... Anything to start the day (or keep it going, there's no rule that says this is reserved for breakfast) on the right foot!
