Love is all the colours, a poem.

Over the weekend, I got to witness one of my best friends get married to a guy she can truly call a partner. As one of her bridesmaids, I was asked to read a text during the ceremony. But not just any text, I had to write it. No pressure.

I wrote several drafts of different ideas until I found inspiration for a poem about colours. Following the order of the rainbow and of the chakras, I started thinking about things that were the right colour but also corresponded to my friend and her husband-to-be. A few tweaks later, I sent it to my friend for approval, she said yes! (pun very much intended)

I wanted to share a similar version in English that is not exactly the same but close enough, I had to make a few changes for obvious rhyming reasons. Hope you feel the love!

Love is red like a poppy that grows in unexpected spaces,

like a racing car that gives you thrills and takes you places.

Love is orange like a morning sun that dazzles and makes you smile,

like a soda that pops and brings out your inner child.

Love is yellow like a sunflower that nothing stops as it conquers the skies,

like a bee that tirelessly works to offer its delicious prize.

Love is green like a prairie whose grass is sweet and tender,

like northern lights that never cease to be a wonder.

Love is blue like a bird that sings its happiness,

like old jeans we put on for comfort and softness.

Love is indigo like an ocean whose depths are full of surprises,

like a gondola that peacefully wanders on the canals of Venice.

Love is purple like a lilac we admire for its tenacious longevity,

like a field of lavender at dusk that fills the air with serenity.

My love for you shines with all the colours of the rainbow

because you have a thousand ways to make my heart glow.
